As someone noted, “if Rolls Royce ever built a Morgan Drophead, this would be it!”

This was a Southern California beautifully restored totally stock Drophead when I initially purchased it in about 1980. I sold it to
Famous British movie star living in Ojai, Ca. He and his wife drove up to Los Gatos, Ca. to purchase it in a major, serious winter storm,
Bought it and he proceeded to drive it home in the storm, later proclaiming the nighttime 350 miles trip as one of the greatest drives of his
Life. About 3 years later he traded the car back to me toward a fully restored Morgan Plus 4 SuperSport which he still has.

A gentleman named Bob Shaw, from Northern Illinois called me about it, flew to Los Gatos, loved the car and purchased it. His claim to
Fame was having been an active SCCA Morgan racer during the ‘60’s in the MidWest. He was also, reputedly, the world’s largest steering wheel
Manufacturer at one point, only able to afford one car as his everyday car and steering wheel sample carrier, it being a Ford GT—this gives one
A bit of insight into the persona of Bob Shaw.

Bob soon suffered a terrible stroke, the left side of his body being and remaining paralyzed for the rest of his life. However, nothing ever really
Daunted Bob….he commissioned Dave Draper, one of his longtime sportscar buddies and the owner of Time Machines to modify the Morgan to his
Personal requests in order that he could drive it, enjoy it in any type of weather. Over several years and at a supposed expense of some $250,000 the
Morgan was reengineered utilizing a Volvo B21 4 cylinder OHC engine with dual side draft Weber carbs, a Volvo 3 speed Automatic transmission, chosen
Due to it’s very compact size, Vintage Air air conditioning, power steering, power windows, fitted custom built to Bob and Bobbi’s, his bride, design and
Specification, Louis Vuitton fitted luggage which filled the spare tire space. The workmanship on everything, paint done in Ivory and Regency Red, the leather
Split bench seat done in matching tone of dark red, the top in beige fabric, the interior and top bows now stained in a red translucent stain…..every detail, every
Fitting polished, chromed, powder coated…..a true work of automotive art. Bob shipped it out to participate in the Morgan celebrations of it’s 100th Anniversary
on the West Coast centered in Pebble Beach/Carmel/Monterey in 2009, wanted Charles Morgan and all visiting Morgan owners and celebrants to view his
work of art, his contribution to Morgan history. Bob and Bobbi drove the car about 10,000 miles over the years, Bob taking his final checkered flag in the sky in
2020. Bobbi requested that I be give the first right to purchase the car a year later when it was decided to sell…..I was honored, thrilled to own it….a 38 year friendship
With Bob reflected in Bob’s desire for nothing but the the best in everything he did, everything he owned or created, and a more generous and admirable person would
Be truly hard to find. Upon it’s arrival at MorganWest, we did a front to back full service, changing all fluids, brakes, repairing the cooling system, spending, in total, about
$11,000, leaving no item in need. It has now been shown at the Rodeo Drive Concours, various times at the Petersen Museum’s two variations of Cars and Coffee…at the Museum itself
And at their new monthly venue at the Santa Rita Vault location, at MogWest39 in Cambria where it won Best in Class in the Limited Production/Modified Class, just missing Best in Show,
Drove beautifully on the 90 mile MogWest Rally in 100+ degree temperatures straight up single lane mountain roads, shown at the San Marino Classic and soon to be shown at the Las Vegas
Concours.
As much as I truly love this car, I just can’t keep them all, drive them all and can offer this absolutely incredible example of engineering and design to some lucky folks to be thrilled with…
