Vehicle History

The time has come for me to sell my beloved 1977 Morgan Plus 8. I have owned Plus 8 Morgans since 1970 having had the pleasure of five different cars pass through my life during this time. This particular Morgan is quite special. First, I have all the records on this car from day one chronicled in a book that comes with the car. I also have the certificate of authenticity for the car from the Morgan factory. The car was originally purchased in England by Mr. C.W Hough with original registration of GWP66S. The car is chassis number R8333 and was completed and test driven during the first week of October 1977. The car was originally right-hand drive ordered in Rolls Royce Shell Grey (ICI P030) Cellulose Paint with Grey leather upholstery. It was ordered with an aluminum body and wings, 3.5 liter Rover V8, Rover 5 Speed gear box, reclining & folding seats, locking petrol caps, headrests, hood, side screens & tonneau cover in grey, locking door handles, back up light, Michelin tires, two door mirrors, seat belts, side marker lights and a 4 seater windscreen. There was a factory luggage rack installed as well. It retains the original engine number 10A21637 and rear axle number C77-476. The car achieved very low mileage during its first decade but did manage a tour of the continent noted by the country code of Monaco on the rear valance. The car was shipped to New Zealand in the mid 1990’s where it showed only 5,626 miles. In 1998 the car was professionally converted to left hand drive by Continental Services located in Wellington, New Zealand in anticipation of being shipped to Honolulu, HI. Interestingly, Continental Services is still in business today. In 1999 the interior of the car was redone in dark red leather along with a new dash with a locking glove box both of which look very striking against the patina of the original paint. The car showed 9,200 miles at that time. In the year 2000 the car was shipped to Honolulu where it resided until my purchase in 2017. In May of 2016 the mileage was noted in the service records as 13,009. Since I acquired the car, I have made several upgrades including a new aluminum radiator, shocks, water pump, Petronix Ignition, Offenhauser 360-degree model 5165 split plane square bore intake manifold with an Edelbrock model 1403 500 CFM carburetor and the finishing touch of a Holley HI TEK Air Cleaner Model 64280. This is the magic setup for the 3.5-liter Rover engine. The car runs very smooth and strong. For those that care I kept all the original parts I took off. The car originally came equipped with five Milrace 14” alloy wheels. These are great wheels for touring and provide a nice comfortable ride with the new tires I had installed. I also have a set of five traditional 15” Morgan wheels that come with the car that have new Vredestein tires on them. The hood (top) and side curtains (factory material) are brand new. The tonneau cover is original to the car. This car has been upgraded over the years but still retains its original paint. I love the originality and history of the car as reflected in the patina. While the paint is not show quality, it is said they are only original once, so I have resisted repainting the car. This is an individual choice and a new buyer may feel differently about this. This car is fully sorted and is ready for the next owner’s enjoyment.
